MEET THE MAKER

HI, I’M MARY

A long-time creative who’s worked in everything from sculpture, photography, illustration, fiber art, to ceramics - I’m the woman behind this one-woman-show.

When I’m not in the studio you can find me cooking + baking, planning my next meal (preferably while enjoying my current one), watching (another) documentary, or futzing over my garden.

Together, my partner and I + our two cats, Beans + Toast, are building our dream in the PNW. Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internet <3

THE WHY

Through MUUG I aspire to bring soft, modern, (fun)ctional pottery to slow down + elevate your every day. There is so much joy to be had in quiet moments with a cup of coffee in your favorite mug or a homemade meal in a comforting bowl. My only wish is to supply you with that favorite piece of homeware.

The name MUUG stems from two things:

  • MUUG (like moo with a ‘g’ at the end) is a silly little thing that slipped out of my mouth one day coming home from the studio. My partner Julien asked, “What’d you make today?”. I replied, “muuuugs”. And it’s stuck ever since.

  • My unbridled love of mugs - in my eyes, they are the perfect vessel: ice cream, coffee + tea, tiny bouquets of wildflowers, soup, snacks, paint brushes, paint brush water, booze, you name it, a mug makes it better. I’ve been collecting mugs since high school and don’t intend on stopping anytime soon.

THE HOW

Made lovingly in my garage studio (garudio) with only the finest stoneware I can find. Thrown on the wheel or hand-built. Fired to cone 6 by our friends at Georgies Ceramics with their electric kilns.

Currently I am unable to mix my own glazes due to lack of space. As MUUG grows so will my knowledge and use of home-mixed glazes, for now manufactured glazes will have to do!
